A Transplanted Virginia Beach Bum...
We were given the assignment to write about our favorite place and describe it using imagery and the senses. I immediately thought of going to the beach and all the wonderful things I experience there. This essay was a lot of fun to write because I got to do some reasearch by going to the shore and noticing what I experienced with all the five senses. It really made me think more about my experience.

I Had a Dream...
Yuck! Who likes writing a research paper? Not me! I did it, though, just like I was told. I learned more than I'd care to admit--paraphrasing, works cited, MLA, parenthetical citations, and on and on and on. I won't say it was a lot of fun to write, but I will tell you that I feel prepared to write research papers in other classes. It was a lot of work, but worth it.

Bloddy Benevolence and Soupy Sweetness...
Only Ms. Devnew and Mr. Merritt would come up with a way to make us help the world! We were given the assignment to do random acts of kindness for a few days. Then we had to write a nonfiction article about it. I enjoyed reflecting about what I did to help people. We even got to borrow cameras and take pictures. Check out my article and see how I made a difference through English 09.

Polt's Putridness...
If I didn't think Mr. Merritt and Ms. Devnew were crazy before, this assignment made me very well aware. One lovely December day, these crazy teachers passed out random Album Covers they found on the Internet, and they told us we had to write a poem using these crazy things as inspiration. My album cover is below. Crazy, right? You can click on the link to the right to see what I came up with. Good luck!
